In Transit: Looking at ways to improve public transit in Guelph and beyond
With all these smog alerts and people getting behind the environment, I thought I’d bring a summary of all my posting on improving both local Guelph Transit as well as regional transit.

i have lived in guelph for almost the whole 34 yrs of my life.I lived in kitchener for 2 yrs.Guelph trasit has to be one of the worst in all of canada.#1,alot of the bus drivers are the rudest people you would ever meet.#2,alot of them are the biggest slackers,aka-very lazy. They dont care about anything except for the pay every thursday. They drive right by you at bus stops, even with a bunch of people standing there. They leave on you at stone rd mall, even when u are right at the door. They will just close the door on your face and laugh, especially this one very obese woman that works there. And of course they are protected by the UNION.And another thing ive seen older men bus drivers staring down and sometimes saying stuff to young teenies. They stop at tim hortons all the time.Break time whenever you want cause we are a union.I went shopping one day,and took the bus home after.I waited at the bus stop for the bus.It was stopped up near bullfrog mall, just sitting there. So i walked up there to get on.The bus driver comesout of timmies with a bunch of coffees. She says sorry i had to get other drivers their coffees, cuse some dont have a timmies on their route….HAHAHA.I wish i could go get coffee anytime.People pay a good fair to ride the bus and thats how the drivers do their job.LOL.And the most important.I have been bringing this to alot of peoples attention.Buses for some reason i have noticed my whole life are allowed to speed on city streets. They never get pulled over.Trust me,ask anyone who rides.Alot of the drivers are nuts, crazy.I can see why people here in guelph have been getting hit alot.I am going to bring that to the ministries attention too.And guelph just has a bad route planner.Really bad.I could re-do it myself and it would work….LOL.its not hard…really.Alot of the routes need to be shortened and more transfer points to get to further sections of the city quicker.Guelph i find is behind in times period. And still NO REAL bus terminal.Years after kitchener and cambridege got theirs.Too many lights dowtown,u obviously dont get it.

I do get what you are saying, however I do get the Transit issue in Guelph and it is more then the 2 or 3 mins the driver stops to pick up a coffee.
If you think that Guelph Transit is bad, then you should try living in Toronto for 2 years and using the TTC. Guelph Transit is much better in some ways compared to the big TTC however in other ways it needs some TLC.
Maybe if you read all the posting on the subject, you will understand it further. Did I mention many of these issues you have brought up are in my writings.
Oh, and just so you know, there will be a bus terminal next year on Carden Street by the Train Station. It has taken to long for many of these things, like a weekly pass, a new terminal, and route improvements to become reality. That is the frustrating part I have with transit in Guelph and why I wrote these articles.

I completely agree with the first post. I come from Ottawa, and if our bus service operated like Guelph transit does, their would be a revolt and many people would be fired. Everthing that Jason said in his post is correct, from bitchy drivers, to the fact that busses are never on time. And now they are decreasing service at rush hour??? How does this make any sense at all??? If busses can’t make their route in 30mins, then change the route!! So many routes make absolutly no sense in this city. Us students are forced to pay for a bus pass in our tuition, yet we get possibly the worst bus service in Canada.

I think some routes need to be every 15 minutes during the week. I think how Guelph Transit can work better is have the buses just drop people off and pick people up and leave like every other city except Kitchener does. I think the idea of looking on the internet or calling to see when the next bus is is silly. I honestly think the money spent on that system could be put toward more wheel chair accessible buses I think they should just stick to displaying on the bus stops the times the bus comes by, I also think the buses should have a rack of free booklets
that say where the buses go like they do in every other city rather than passengers asking the drivers, also it seems to me drivers worry more about passengers disrespecting them, then about them disrespecting the passengers or passengers dis respecting other passengers, I also feel like their not very patient with mentally challenged people, seem to be have a problem with university and college students and their often mean to kids. I respect the fact
Guelph Transit has clamped down on passengers being mean to drivers and I can understand why drivers are mean to kids, but the system also needs to clamp down on everyone who’s being mean to anyone and the drivers also need to be more under standing, but I think it’s good Guelph Transit got new CB radios back in 2003.
