Kathleen Farrelly will return to city hall as the councillor for Ward 1. City councillors voted unanimously last nightto direct city clerk Lois Giles to offer Farrelly a seat on council as soon as possible. And she said last night she will gladly accept the offer. Hopefully people will understand the argument for not blowing $50,000 on a byelection.
A Guelph high school student has been arrested for assault after a video of a schoolyard beating was posted on a popular website. Guelph Police was notified by a witness who said the video of the assault at Our Lady of Lourdes high school, taken with a cell phone, was posted on YouTube. Well, the world sure has changed since I was in High School, what a terrible thing to do.
Staff aim to have a pesticide bylaw ready for city council by May, following council’s unanimous vote last week to phase in a ban on cosmetic use of pesticides in the city. Hopefully the city looks at how compromise has been made in other communities across Canada so that jobs are not lost in the pesticide field.
As of Sunday, the Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network has taken over all responsibility of planning, funding and integrating local health services. Along with the 13 other integration networks across Ontario, the Waterloo Wellington group will be responsible for allocating nearly $1 billion to improve health care for people in this area.
